Dear Shirley

Dear Shirley is a personal documentary project that I produced in the 1980's. The entire series is made up of 60 images.The series began as letters written to a friend as I tried to understand my life as I went through a divorce, and fell in love with a woman. Twenty five years later, Susan and I are still in the same frame. In this project, the photographs followed the writing. At the time homosexuality was talked about mostly in closets. It seems now that it is talked about in the foyer. We look forward to not being talked about, but talked with, in living rooms, and offices and wherever policy is made.
